I bought this pet door for my lab.
He has quite long legs for a lab but isn't over stocky or wide. Ive been trying to get him used to the door but he is very reluctant to go through it- he has done twice but both times he bashed his knees as he hopped through which deterred him from trying again for a while.
I would say this size is better for medium-large dogs, like a small border collie. I can't imagine a German Shepherd fitting through. The maximum size they say for shoulder width is actually the same as the width so it must feel very scary trying to squeeze through.
Also the 'screen' that fits into the flap for extra security seems to be on the wrong side, ie the back of the door.
Obviously you need access to the screen so we've had to install ours facing outwards- so from the inside it looks quite rough and the 'staywell' logo is back to front (why does everything have to have an ugly logo on it anyway?) It looks nice from the outside- like the pictures on the...
Excellent dog flap
We have used this type of dog flap for several years now for our (large) German Shepherd dog. He can go in and out very easily and the flap works well for him and other smaller dogs. All the dogs have mastered the art of how to use it very quickly. It is draught proof and easy to clean. We have two flaps - one between the kitchen and the utility room and one in the back door so the dogs can go out when they want to. The flap in the back door is very discreet and many visitors do not notice it is there until a huge dog suddenly appears through it!
