I bought the Flectabed for my ageing German Shepherd who is starting to have problems with his old joints. The size 4 (50 x 30 inch) has ample space for this size of dog. It works by trapping body heat, air and light and reflects the warmth back onto the pet who is lying on it - NASA technology I believe! So no need for electricity to create a very cosy bed with warmth that eases old joints but enjoyed by any pets who appreciate a cosy place to curl up. I use it as a bed in itself, but can also see the advantage of using it as a blanket inside a pet's usual bed. Fully machine washable and you can buy extra covers for it if you like - I haven't found the need to do so since it dries very quickly. It has proved a great hit and the dog often has to share with the cats - fortunately there is enough room! I shopped around and found that Amazon had the best price for this item. I would definitely recommend it.
Money well spent
I have several of these. The cats love them. The covers are washable and you can replace them if need be. Having said that, one of mine is about 4 years old and still like new. One thing to bear in mind is that they only reflect body heat so are not suitable for animals with hypothermia.
They are well-made using quality materials.
They are great for areas where it isn't practical or safe to have heated beds.
I tried a cheaper version of these but it was a false economy as it makes a crinklling sound that my cat hates
