I have two toy dogs, and keeping their teeth clean is a constant struggle. I have had success with PetzLife gel, but they hated it. I also use PlaqueOff, which certainly helps. The Tropiclean gel is also helping - used in conjunction with the PlaqueOff, raw bones (NOT hard marrow bones!), tooth brushing and a flick of a finger nail to get rid of hard tartar, I can see a considerable difference in just a few weeks. One dog tolerates it pretty well - the other runs round making faces and trying to rub it off - but I think the benefits of avoiding an anaesthetic outweigh the few moments discomfort each day.
One thing I do not like about this product is that it is very runny, and gets runnier as soon as it is warmed on the end of your finger. This makes it difficult to get onto the dog's teeth, rather than all over fur and muzzle - that, and the evening rigmarole of Sophy trying to spit it out, get it four stars instead of five. I didn't buy this on Amazon but a local pet store. Having tried most products on the market, I didn't have hopes of this being any different. My dog is almost 13 and has pretty dodgy looking teeth, worse than the example picture for the product, however within 2 weeks of starting a daily application, I went to apply and couldn't believe one of her canines was completely clear of plaque/tartar. There has been significant improvements on all other teeth as well. She also seems to be managing hard biscuits much better. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
