i bought this whistle to train my german shepard puppy,it is not silent,but to our hearing it is not very loud,but it really does get his attention,you can alter the tone by adjusting the screw,i have found that the higher the pitch,the better effect it has,if you are worried that it might come undone and you lose it,all i did was put a drop of adehisive(i used loktite) on the threads then screw it in and leave it to set,
