I bought this item to put into my dogs whelping box to add a little comfort & warmth. I wish I'd bought 2 as it's been really good. When the puppies were born they spent all their time on the fleece, rarely using the heat pad that I'd bought. I can chuck it in the washing machine & it doesn't take long to dry on a rad. I bought this for some new kittens, but they ended up staying with mum. However I kept the Vetbed to go inside my dog's wicker basket, and she loves it. It's warm and soft, washable and flexible. It would be easy to cut it to size if you needed to. It fits snugly inside the mutt's basket and she has never tried to dig it out. She just settles down chunnering slightly, and I don't hear her rustling as much at night now even though her bed is right next to mine. I can imagine this would be ideal for a poorly or elderly pet as its texture is so appealing! I'm thinking of buying another piece as I can see many uses for it over the winter.
