The main draw back is that the on off switch is a toggle which means you only know it's on or off by pressing the test switch to make the audible noise. However it also sets off the ultra sonic so it's advasable to turn on/off/test away from the dog to prevent confusing him.

I bought this in a hope of shutting up my neighbours dog which barks for hours on end when they go out. It made no difference, despite the device pointing straight at him at close range.

I thought the device would control my dog's barking. Not only does it NOT have any effect (if anything it makes the barking worse!) but I can't even tell when the device is on or off.
